This has been a disastrous spring for the jewelry industry, from jewelry artists, to retailers and galleries, to manufacturers, suppliers and gem dealers, to miners. Not only have these businesses been shut down to prevent the spread of the coronavirus that causes Covid-19, but the customers who buy jewelry are mostly sitting at home, unemployed. Jewelry is a luxury. It’s not the first thing people in a pandemic think about buying. Even as things reopen, everyone may find that business has changed.
Isolated as everyone in the industry has been, perforce, it’s easy to think you’re the only one suffering. You may think there is no light. I wanted to talk to those across the industry to find out how they have been affected by the pandemic, how they’re surviving and/ or adapting, what is getting them through, or even find out how they need help—with support, resources, ideas, or simply knowing you are not alone in this.
Let me know how you’re responding to this pandemic. How your business has changed or not, how you’re moving forward. What you have to say could help others.
